Adult Group Therapy

Group psychotherapy is a useful treatment for teenagers with mental health issues.  Group work can be a protective factor for adolescents and their families. Group therapy has shown to be as effective as individual psychotherapy and medication treatment for social anxiety.

I have been providing group therapy to my patients ranging in age from 14-79 years old for more than a decade. I am a firm believer in the healing power of groups: these can focus on many themes, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction recovery for patients and their families. Such groups have been highly valued by my patients and have played a significant role in their healing process. My groups typically consist of adolescents of similar ages (15-19) but with different personalities which enriches the session communications.

Is Group Therapy Right for You?

There are so many excellent reasons clients enter into and thrive as a result of group therapy. These are just a few:

  • Dealing with depression, anxiety, trauma, bad habits, and school stressors.
  • Wishing to repair distressed or disrupted relationships with friends, families, and partners
  • Seeking a positive/warm/supportive environment to share your experience confidentially, and learn how to improve your relationships
  • Curious about developing new insights about interpersonal challenges
  • Missing a deeply connected group of learned friends to share with, and learn from
  • Find out how others like you react to psychiatric medications, diagnosis,  labels, and stigma
  • Ready to move forward with a new beginning

“The group experience that Dr. Sid provides was great.  Being around people, the sense of camaraderie, talking, and sharing made me feel much better within a month.”

“I used to be angry and aggressive at times.  Dr. Sid helped me to be calmer. My soccer partner says that I have become a different person.”

“Dr. Siahpush has continued to treat me with empathy, optimism, and kindness.”

“I felt that it was a sign of weakness to talk about feelings. So I bottled up. But in groups, I developed a lot of understanding, and found caring people. I realized that a lot of people have felt the same way. I look forward to each group.”
